The ending of something you thought was forever is like a bereavement, regardless of whether you instigated the separation or whether you are on the receiving end of it.

In order to deal with the amount of uncertainties and distressful emotions created by your separation, your nervous systems tipped into survival mode: you are constantly stressed and anxious, you react to everything that is happening from a place of hurt, your emotions are raw, uncontrollable and clouding your judgement. You feel lost, can't work out who you are and what you want.

THE NEGATIVITY BIAS IS EXACERBATED

In order to ensure your survival, your brain will systematically look for the worst case scenario. When in survival mode, this negativity bias is strengthening everyday. it floods you with negative thoughts and catastrophic projections for the future, your emotions are unmanageable. You loose your optimism and your self-esteem, you might feel that life is hard and that you will never be happy again. 

YOUR BRAIN'S AUTOMATIC PROGRAMS ARE FAULTY

Your brain is made of wires between neurons, theses physical wires are in fact automatic and unconscious programs/patterns that dictate your beliefs, thoughts, emotions and behaviours. The old programs created through your mariage and separation are obsolete: they are hurting you and preventing you from moving on. The danger is that the longer you stay in your current place of hurt, your brain is creating new patterns of beliefs, thoughts and emotions that are hurting you and will impact the rest of your life. You are stuck in the past.
